Got passed over for a promotion. The guy who got it is someone I trained.

Found out Monday. Eleven years at the company, and the role went to a guy I onboarded three years ago. He is good. That is the part that stings, I cannot even be properly mad at him. My manager said I am "too valuable where I am." Everybody in that office knows what that sentence means. I have been polite all week. Congratulated him in the team channel and everything. Now it is Thursday night and I cannot tell if I am angry, embarrassed, or just tired.

uff lo de "too valuable where you are" lo conozco, es la forma bonita de decir q no te van a mover nunca

That sentence is a decision, not a compliment. The real question is whether you want to stay somewhere that already decided where you fit. You do not have to answer it this week.

Yeah. Part of me knew it the second he said it. I think what I am really embarrassed about is how long I waited for someone to notice instead of asking.

Me pasó algo parecido hace unos años. Lo que me sirvió fue pedir una reunión y preguntar, sin reclamar: «¿qué tendría que pasar para que el siguiente sea yo?». La respuesta me dijo todo lo que necesitaba saber. Seis meses después me fui.

Stealing that question. Asking it Monday.

Felicitarlo en el chat del equipo cuando te esta llevando la fregada por dentro tiene su merito, eso no cualquiera
