Privacy notice

Who is responsible

The party responsible for processing your data is the operator of 8isok, domiciled in Mexico. For anything related to this notice or your data, write to datos@8isok.com.

What data we collect

Only what is needed for the forum to work and to understand how it is used:

• Your account: your email address, your password (stored encrypted; nobody can read it, not even us) and the username you choose.
• What you do on the forum: your posts, comments, votes and reports, with their dates; the list of users you have blocked; and the date you accepted the community rules.
• Technical: the cookies needed to keep your session open and remember your language, and your theme preference (light or dark), stored in your browser.
• Your age in years and the date you declared it (normally when you create your account). It confirms you are over 18 and feeds the aggregate statistics by age range; it is never shown on your profile or next to anything you post.
• Your approximate location (country, region and city), derived from your IP address when you log in. We don't use your device's GPS or ask your permission, because we don't access your precise location. We use it only for aggregate statistics by area and to understand where the forum is used from; it is never shown on your profile, next to anything you post, or tied to a specific post.
• From your visit to the website, to measure its traffic and its speed: which page you viewed, which site you came from, your country, and your device and browser type. This measurement exists only on the website —the app does not carry it—, uses no cookies, does not follow you to other sites and is not stored alongside your account: they are counts about the whole, not a history of you.
• Which alerts you have pending: how many replies, comments and upvotes each thing you posted has received, which new posts on the forum you haven't seen yet (while you keep that alert on) and when you last opened the bell. It is a counter per post or comment: we don't store who replied to you or who upvoted you, because alerting you doesn't require it. We also store your alert preferences: what you want to be alerted about and from which communities. Counters disappear when the content they refer to is deleted, and new-post ones delete themselves after thirty days.
• 8isok also has an app for Android and iOS. It is the same account and the same database as www.8isok.com: what you post in one is visible in the other, and this notice covers both equally.
• If you turn on phone notifications in the app: the identifier Apple or Google assign to your phone to receive them (the “token”), the platform (iOS or Android) and the app language. It is used only to send you those alerts; it is deleted when you sign out, when you turn notifications off and when you delete your account.

We don't ask for your real name or phone number, and we don't need them.

What “anonymous” means here

When you post anonymously, your username is not shown with that post: not to the public, not to other users, not even to moderators. That separation is enforced in the database, not just on the screen.

What you should know: the system always keeps an internal record of which account wrote what. Without it we couldn't, for example, let you delete your own content or moderate the forum. That link is never shown to anyone and is used only to run and protect the site.

Sensitive data

We don't ask you for sensitive data. Whatever you choose to share in your posts is published by you, under your username or anonymously, and is visible to anyone who visits the site. Think before including details that identify you or other people.

What we use your data for

The primary purposes — the ones that make the service work — are:

• Creating and maintaining your account, and signing you in.
• Publishing and displaying your content exactly as you choose: under your name or anonymously.
• Sending account emails: confirming your sign-up and recovering your password. We send no newsletters or promotions.
• Moderating the forum so it doesn't turn toxic, with human moderators and automated content review by an external provider (DeepSeek), which receives only the published text and never who wrote it.
• Protecting the site: preventing abuse, spam and impersonation, and meeting legal obligations.
• Alerting you, with the bell inside the site and the app and, if you turn it on, with notifications on your phone, when someone replies to or upvotes what you posted, when a thread you joined gets new comments and when something new is posted on the forum or in the communities you pick. Each kind of alert can be turned off in Settings, and phone notifications have their own switch. We don't email you about them.

Additional uses: aggregate statistics

Beyond running the forum, we count and measure what happens in it: how many posts there are, which communities get used most, how topics shift over time, what hours people write. That's how we learn what serves the forum and what doesn't.

Those figures are aggregate and anonymous: numbers and trends about the whole, never about you. They include neither your email, nor your username, nor the text of what you wrote, and we only publish a figure when there are enough people behind it that no one can be singled out. A statistic about two people isn't a statistic; it's an indiscretion.

We may publish, share or commercialize those aggregate statistics — in reports, on the site itself, or with third parties. Once a figure can no longer identify anyone it stops being personal data: what leaves here is a portrait of the whole, never yours.

Your personal data and what you wrote are never sold or rented, and that doesn't change. If you'd still rather your activity not count even in the aggregate, write to us and we'll leave you out; your experience on the site won't change.

Who your data travels to

We don't sell or rent your personal data, and there are no ads on the site. To operate we use providers that process data on our behalf, with their own security measures, whose servers may be outside Mexico, mainly in the United States:

• Supabase — the database and authentication. Your account and your content live here.
• Vercel — the infrastructure that serves the website, the website traffic and speed measurement described above, and the calculation of your approximate location from your IP address.
• Resend — delivery of account emails.
• DeepSeek — automated content review for moderation. It receives only the title, text and language of what was posted; never your email, your username or anything that identifies you.
• Apple and Google — only if you download the app. When you do, they process data from your store account and your device under their own privacy notices; we don't receive that information and we don't know who you are in the store.
• Apple (Apple Push Notification service) and Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) — only if you turn on phone notifications. Each alert travels through their servers to your device: they receive your phone's token and the text of the alert (for example, that someone posted in a community, or that your post got a comment), never your e-mail or your password.

These transfers are necessary for the service to exist. By using 8isok, you consent to this processing.

How long we keep your data

For as long as your account exists. You can delete your posts and comments at any time, and deletion is real: they disappear from the database, not just from view.

The internal moderation log keeps excerpts of moderated content as evidence, even if that content is deleted, without your username. You can delete your entire account from Settings, both in the app and on the site: your profile and everything you posted are removed, immediately and permanently. If you'd rather ask by email, write to us and we'll do it.

Your rights (ARCO)

Mexican law gives you the right to Access the data we hold about you, Rectify it if inaccurate, Cancel it, and Object to its processing, as well as to revoke at any time any consent you have given us.

To exercise them, write to datos@8isok.com from the email you registered with — that's how we verify the account is yours — stating which right you want to exercise. From the app it's the same channel: Settings has a button that opens that email. We'll reply within the timeframes the law sets.

If you believe we didn't handle your request properly, you may turn to Mexico's data protection authority.

Cookies and storage on your device

We use only what is strictly necessary:

• Session cookies, to keep you signed in.
• A language cookie, to remember whether you read in Spanish or English.
• Your theme preference (light or dark), stored locally in your browser.
• In the app: the token that keeps your session open, stored in the system's secure store (Keychain on iOS, Keystore on Android), and your language and theme preferences.
• The app collects no advertising or device identifiers, carries no trackers and sends no diagnostic reports.

We use no advertising cookies, trackers or third-party analytics.

Adults only

8isok is intended exclusively for people 18 and older. When you create an account we ask your age: if you declare you are under 18, the account is not created and we keep no data from that attempt. We do not knowingly collect data from minors; if we detect a minor's account, we will delete it along with all its content. If you know a minor is using the site, write to datos@8isok.com.

Changes to this notice

We may modify this notice when the service changes or the law requires it. The date of the last update appears above and, if a change is substantial, we'll announce it visibly on the site. Continuing to use 8isok after a change means you accept it.

One more thing

8isok is peer conversation. It is not a professional service or an emergency channel; that's why the notice with the crisis line is always visible on the site.
